Since opening in 1994, Big Delicious Planet has proven that high-quality food, eye-catching presentations, and personalized service can be consistently delivered when you and the people you work with share a passion for creating one-of-a-kind meals and events. Our menus reflect our name, delicious food from all over the globe. One constant has been a core staff of great men and women who work very hard and some very long days. Without their strong work ethic and commitment, this company wouldn't be what it is today.

Heidi Moorman Coudal                         Owner + Culinary Director

Heidi began dabbling in food with a copy of her mom's Officers' Wives Club Cookbook. Born in Munich, Germany while the Moorman family was living abroad, Heidi lived your typical military kid lifestyle, moving often and to a crazy menu of places: Germany, California, Greece, Alabama, Oklahoma, South Georgia, etc. Wherever they moved, so went a copy of the latest cookbook and new recipes. Her favorite summers were spent traveling and camping around Europe in a red VW van with her mom, three siblings, art books and a Michelin Guide.

After college, and a life-changing semester in India, Heidi moved to Chicago and began working in film production as a production coordinator and producer, and later worked with a rock & roll caterer. There was a market for catering to film sets and backstage at concerts, so Big Delicious Planet was founded in 1994 on a whim with her sister, Ellen, who has since moved to the UK. Having catered to thousands bands over 20 years, BDP's client list is as impressive as the roster at The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame: Sting, Elton John, Neil Young, Aretha Franklin, Bruce Springsteen, Aerosmith, Pearl Jam, Jimmy Buffet, Metallica, etc. Aside from rockers, BDP has fed The 14th Dalai Lama, Senator Barack Obama, Donatella Versace, and thousands of other people.

In 2010 Heidi moved BDP's headquarters to West Town, opened a cafe, the Canteen, and built their incredible urban farm on two adjacent undeveloped city lots. In 2013 BDP became the nation's first caterer to earn 4 Star Certified Green Restaurant status, and was named "The Greenest Caterer in America."

Heidi finds inspiration in her travels around the world, and the diverse ethnic culture and cuisine of Chicago. She and her husband, Jim, are the proud parents of three awesome teenagers (Isabelle, Grace and Spencer).

Come on by for lunch, and say hello to Heidi!

Sarah Crowley                                     Digital Marketing Manager Sarah's background may be marketing, but she's no stranger to hospitality and food. Throughout college, she worked many service jobs, from wedding catering at a fancy hotel, to a taqueria, where she stood on the side of the road in a taco suit to generate business. She's interned at a hospitality marketing firm, worked in agencies, and was last a project manager for a design + print shop. At BDP, she manages our digital department, coordinates the farm dinner series, and helps out with client services, stepping in wherever she's needed. When Sarah's not at BDP, she enjoys tending to her own garden plot, working for Mint Creek Farm at summer markets, and seeing live music.
